The Drainage and Irrigation Department
(DID) of Malaysia implemented a new Urban Stormwater
Management Manual on 1 January 2001. The Manual is used as the basis for the approval of development plans that
involve drainage by all agencies in the private and public
sectors.
The new Manual represents
a paradigm shift in DID’s approach towards the
management of urban stormwater. It replaces the previous Rapid Discharge" approach with the sustainable approach
of Controlling runoff at Source".
To comply with the design requirements in the Manual
there is a need for consulting engineers to carry out
repetitive drainage network simulations and design
calculations. Thus, the use of an appropriate, user-friendly
and interactive drainage design computer program, such as
MIDUSS-98, to facilitate the drainage system design is
indispensable.
To help drainage engineers in Malaysia meet the design challenges
imposed by the requirements of the 2001 DID Manual, Alan A. Smith Inc.
is pleased to announce that it has developed in collaboration with Dr.
Jin Lee, Principal of DRE Consulting, a customized version of MIDUSS
for use by Malaysian users.
Alan A. Smith Inc. has also appointed DRE Consulting as its sole
agent for the sale and support of MIDUSS in Malaysia. Potential
customers from Malaysia interested in getting the add-on files to
customise MIDUSS for use in Malaysia, or in purchasing MIDUSS may
contact Dr. Jin Lee for further details. Dr. Lee will also be able to
provide advice on the appropriateness of MIDUSS in meeting the
requirements of the new Manual. He is accepted by the DID as a
lecturer on the requirements of the new Manual, and has developed and
conducted design seminars/workshops on the new Manual for DID
engineers in the state of Pahang and Kedah. Thus, he is capable of
providing additional training services on the use of MIDUSS to meet
the specific design requirements of the 2001 DID Manual. Contact
